Thanksgiving Table Setting 2021

November 13, 2021

We just love thanksgiving. Everything from spending time with our family to the parade make the holiday a warm and joyous occasion without fail. Every year as the day approaches, our focus turns to the center stage of this holiday, the table. This year we were inspired by the incredible greenery available in our local area and our use of natural materials for our fall decorating. We used our simple rules for table decorating to bring this beauty to life. These rules or guidelines if incorporated together create a table with undeniable interest that does not have you exasperated before the guests arrive. These guidelines include light, texture, height, natural materials, and simplicity. This table incorporates all these rules to equal a simple but elegant thanksgiving backdrop. (For more on these rules see our article Thanksgiving Tablescape)

In order to achieve this look, we started with a rustic linen tablecloth. This gives a sense of comfort and ease to the table. For the centerpiece we used a wide, short vase with one type of flower. No bouquet arranging needed here. This can be done with any greenery or dried grasses that you have available. Just get enough to fill up a big vase and as always watch your height. You want to be able to speak to the people on the other side of the table. To add texture and an aspect of light, we added clear glass pieces to the table including a glass pumpkin and an apothecary vase. If your table is larger, we recommend adding more pieces of clear glass and possibly some smaller vases of the same greenery down the table as long as you need to go.

As far as light goes, we added our simple household candlesticks. We use 12-inch tapered candles to add height and elegance. The interplay of candlelight with the clear glass has no comparison. Feel free to add votives to fill up space as needed if you have a longer table. For place settings we relied on a mix of white plates, natural beige napkins, and decorative flatware. This combination provides interest between the down to earth fabrics with the special flatware and plates. To add some additional interest, we couldn’t resist finishing off the table with some of our special vintage pieces such as small salt and pepper plates. Be sure to leave enough room on the table for your other additions such as butter, sauces, basket of rolls, etc.

These guidelines never fail to make a table that is a wonder to behold. We promise when you put together these simple pieces it will make a table special enough for a holiday but simple enough to be a backdrop for an incredible feast. Something to be grateful for indeed.
